In a home, heat losses can quickly contribute to raising your energy bill. But where does the heat escape from?

Of course, heat leaks can vary greatly from one house to another, depending on the specific characteristics of each home. However, it is generally noted that heat escapes from the following places:

  • 31% from floors, walls and ceilings
  • 15% from electric sockets
  • 14% from fireplaces
  • 13% from plumbing
  • 11% from doors
  • 10% from windows
  • 4% from fans
  • 2% from inside ducts

Now that we know where the heat escapes from, how do we keep it indoors?

We advise you to clean sliding door rails and remove debris which can misalign them, and cause air infiltration. In addition, you can put a plastic wrap on rarely used windows. For frequently used doors and windows, caulk them and install weather stripping. Finally, we recommend that you install childproof plugs in electric outlets.

By knowing the places where heat escapes and with these few tricks, you will be better equipped to reduce energy loss!
