It’s common knowledge that potato peels can make tasty potato chips, but you may not know about their surprising superpowers. They can be used as cleaning and beauty products, in addition to being an amazing source of energy!
Fight dark circles
Wake up with puffy eyes or dark circles under them? Place fresh potato skins over your eyes and leave them on for about 10 minutes. Repeat as needed until your dark circles have diminished.
The starch in potato peels can work wonders on superficial burns, redness and sunburn. Simply place a fresh peel over the area to be treated (the thicker the peel, the more effective it will be) to reduce pain and speed up healing. Repeat as needed.
To remove fingerprints from walls, doors and light switches or to get out a grass stain from a piece of clothing, potato peel starch is your friend. Rub the inside of the peel over the marks or stains in small circular motions and then wipe with a dry cloth.
If you have ugly limescale on your dishes, simply submerge them in boiling water with potato peels. They’ll look good as new! If your utensils have rust stains, rub them between two potato peels to remove them. And to make your glasses and crystal shine: soak them in warm water with potato peels. This simple and effective remedy will restore their lustre.
Turn them into a source of clean, local energy
No matter how you use your potato peels, be sure to put them in your compost bin (or bag) to give them a second life or convert them into an energy source. That’s right! Organic waste can be used to create renewable natural gas. This clean, locally produced energy is injected into the gas network and reduces GHG emissions.
