Training offered to entrepreneurs for a greener, more prosperous economic recovery

At a time of rapid change, Énergir is committed to its customers and the community by providing a training course to equip business leaders for the economic recovery of the coming years. Entitled Thinking Differently in a World in Transition, this new 20-hour program offered by the University of Sherbrooke’s Centre for Continuing Education is being offered with the financial support of Énergir.

Supporting Recovery Across Quebec

An initial cohort of about 40 people completed this training course in the spring of 2022. Among them, Stéphane Paquette, president of Scelltech, a road services company, shares his enthusiasm for this initiative: “ In groups of 4 to 10 people, in virtual mode, we discussed with entrepreneurs from all over Quebec. It was a very interesting experience that allowed us to realize what we could do as a company to protect the environment, among others, by including renewable natural gas in our energy consumption. ”

With a certificate from the Université de Sherbrooke in hand, participants leave this seven-week course with concrete tools they can use immediately to successfully complete their recovery. “The pandemic’s downtime gave us time to bounce back and deal with labour shortages and supply problems,” says Stéphane Paquette. “Before, I didn’t have an inventory. Now I have to stock and try to anticipate the products according to the contracts that are coming. It’s a completely different way of operating. ” The program is divided into 4 blocks and covers topics that help revise your post-crisis business model:

  1. The transition to a low-carbon future
  2. Local, green and responsible economic recovery
  3. Collaboration in the community
  4. Lead in unstable times

“ Alone, we go fast. Together, we go further. ”

Stéphane Paquette, President of Scelletech

In particular, the training allows participants to reflect on the impact of waste and greenhouse gases on the environment, and teaches them on how to recycle more by optimizing their facilities and how to attract the talents of the younger generation. “ Being a brand employer includes all of this and also what we give back to the community,” says Scelltech’s president. “We give our time, we run errands together to raise money,” Scelltech staff said, highlighting the efforts of Scelletech employees toward the Key Foundation, which provides Internet access to disadvantaged children. “These are activities that allow us to get to know our world, while also giving back to the community. When we do that, we can’t get it wrong.”

As the name of the course, Thinking Differently in a World in Transition, indicates, “it is a repositioning in the current context where we are breaking down our business plan by rethinking our methodology to fit into the circular economy,” according to Mr. Paquette. Environmental protection is a fundamental value for the younger generation, which, according to Mr. Paquette, is often discussed by candidates during job interviews. “It’s a whole new mindset to put in place to move our world forward. ”
