When Hydro-Québec’s power system is in high demand (energy peaks), a dual-energy unit temporarily switches from electricity to natural gas supplied by Énergir. This heating solution has several advantages: it reduces the pressure on Québec’s electrical grid, helps fight climate change, and is affordable!

Here is how you can take advantage of dual energy in 5 simple steps:

• Contact Énergir to schedule a visit from a  certified natural gas partner. These partners are independent contractors who are members of the Corporation des maîtres mécaniciens en tuyauterie du Québec (CMMTQ). They work in compliance with the highest quality and performance standards for the safe installation of natural gas equipment.
• The certified partner visits your home to make the best recommendations for your dual-energy system. With a detailed submission, you will be able to make an informed choice.
• Once you have chosen your equipment, a natural gas certified partner has you sign a contract, which could give you access to a grant offered by Énergir, Hydro-Québec and the Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles. This way, you can get great discounts on your new dual-energy system.
• On the day of installation, the certified partner replaces the devices. They will take all necessary precautions to protect the interior of your home. Before leaving, they will check that all connections are flawless. A few weeks later, a Hydro-Québec installer will replace your meter and add a sensor. This will allow you to take advantage of Rate DT, a rate specifically designed for dual-energy customers.
