May 4, 2007 - Press releases
Montreal, May 4, 2007 - Énergir is proud to be associated with the official inauguration of the Route verte. Just like Énergir’s natural gas distribution system, this vast bikeway links numerous regions and passes through hundreds of municipalities from one end of Québec to the other. Besides making trips between municipalities easier, the bikeway will help introduce new enthusiasts to the benefits and pleasures of using a bicycle as a means of transportation.
"The Route verte epitomizes what Énergir advocates: besides linking various communities, this superb project encourages sustainable transportation and, ipso facto, a reduction in greenhouse gas. We salute the initiative shown by those behind the project", said Jean Simard, Vice-President, Sustainable Development, Public and Governmental Affairs.
Énergir has been looking to improve its performance and that of its employees as regards sustainable transportation for some years. Several initiatives have been undertaken, aimed not only at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to the activities of its fleet of cars and trucks, but also at reducing those due to its employees driving alone.
Among those initiatives :
