Montreal, November 16, 2006 - Gaz Métro’s excellent performance was recognized at the Grands Prix québécois de la qualité awards ceremony, organized by the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation and by the Mouvement québécois de la qualité. The company was awarded the Grand Prix - Catégorie Grande entreprise de services, établissement ou filiale de grande entreprise in recognition of its excellent results in quality improvement.
“This award proves that the increased efforts made by Gaz Métro since 1999 to improve its performance have paid off in creating a high-quality organization. We are very pleased to receive this honour, which reflects credit on our employees, our investors and our customers,” said Robert Tessier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz Métro.
“Our continuous improvement approach, Défi Excellence, is part of a more global strategic orientation based on the constant and rigorous monitoring of our results at all levels of the company. We believe that in order to improve, we first need to measure. The award received today is testimony to the professionalism of our employees and to the competitiveness of our company,” Tessier added.
Launched in 1999, Défi Excellence aims to make Gaz Métro a highly successful company through the implementation of best management practices. Since its launch, three QUALImeter audits conducted at Gaz Métro have helped measure progress and bring about significant improvements. In eight years, the company has taken a veritable leap forward in quality improvement. Its efforts have now been crowned, with the presentation of the Grand Prix - Catégorie Grande entreprise de services, établissement ou filiale de grande entreprise.
Gaz Métro Overview
With more than $2.7 billion of assets and more than 1,500 employees in Quebec, Gaz Métro is a leading Quebec energy company and one of Canada’s largest natural gas distributors. Gaz Métro serves about 167,000 customers in Quebec through an underground pipeline network of almost 10,000 km. A subsidiary, Vermont Gas Systems, serves about 38,000 customers.
