    Choosing sustainable modes of transportation

In addition to active transportation, employees are encouraged to use sustainable transportation. The Frontenac metro station, which is a two-minute walk from the office, the OPUS & Cie program, which offers discounts to employees who use the service, reserved carpooling parking spaces and charging stations for electric vehicles are just some of the incentives for choosing sustainable modes of transportation.

    Adopting a healthy lifestyle

Because it takes its employees’ quality of personal and professional life to heart, Énergir has encouraged them through the Chaque minute compte (Every Minute Counts) program since 2012. Conferences, badminton tournaments, and stretching and aerobics courses are just some of the proposed activities. We also offer several benefits to encourage employees to adopt healthy life habits every day. Among other things, Énergir pays for half of employees’ meals when they opt for salads in the cafeteria.

  • Promoting employee engagement

    The Atout cœur program

Énergir incites its employees to invest in the community by getting involved in programs that they hold dear. These contributions are part of the Atout cœur community engagement promotion program, which features two components. First, ad hoc training groups allow employees to carry out a community project that the company supports financially. Second, regular or long-term social engagement is recognized through financial support to organizations in which employees are involved.

Christmas baskets for more than 30 years

Since 1984, Énergir has contributed to Christmas baskets by delivering food to low-income families in the Centre-Sud and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhoods. In 2015, 57,600 portions of food were collected, and more than 240 families had happy holidays thanks to a well-stocked pantry.

    The Hochelaga school advocacy committee

The Hochelaga school in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district has benefited from a special relationship with Énergir for many years. An employee committee organizes activities to enrich the daily lives of the school’s students, including a Christmas party for the younger kids and a career day for the older youths. All year long, the committee also offers help to children in difficulty.

The Bleu études project that lets students dream

The Bleu études project was set up based on the finding that Énergir can help counteract the school dropout phenomenon through direct contact with adolescents, helping them persevere and obtain their high school diploma. The Bleu études project aims to motivate young people to complete their high school studies by introducing them to Énergir employees who hold technical jobs.

  • Implementing environmentally friendly measures

    Sound environmental management

Sound environmental management is an essential part of a sustainable development approach, and Énergir’s Environmental Management System (EMS) is consistent with this principle. Through the EMS, Énergir prevents or reduces the negative repercussions of its operations on the environment. In October 2000, the Bureau de normalisation du Québec certified the EMS ISO 14001, and has renewed it ever since. Read our environmental policy (PDF)

    LEED-certified buildings

In 2010, the Énergir head office obtained the LEED Canada-CI Silver certification and, in 2014, its Rouyn-Noranda business office received the LEED Canada NC 2009 certification. These certifications highlight the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainable development.
