Efficient renovation - Buildings consuming more than 150,000 m³/year and commercial greenhouses

This grant aims to encourage making renovations that will improve the thermal envelope of buildings that consume more than 150,000 m³ of natural gas per year, along with commercial greenhouses. The goal? To improve energy efficiency  and so reduce energy costs. 

The work may include replacing windows, and/or improving the insulation of walls and roofs, installing  thermal screens for greenhouses, etc.
How to determine your annual natural gas consumption?
  • For existing customers: Check your last bill or consult your customer account under the Client area on our website
  • For future customers: Contact us for an estimate of your future consumption 

Calculation of the grant¹

$1.00/m3 of natural gas saved in the first year following the implementation of an eligible measure, up to a maximum of 75% of eligible costs.

Who is the grant is intended for?

You may benefit from the efficient renovation grant if you meet the following criteria:
  1. You use natural gas as the principal source of energy for heating the building covered by the project, which has an annual natural gas consumption of at least  150,000 m³.
  2. You are an Énergir customer or about to become one.2
  3. You operate in one of the following activity sectors:
         - Commercial
         - Multi-tenant buildings with four or more units;
         - Institutional
         - Industrial
  4. You plan to improve the building envelope. The work involves:
         - Buildings: Insulating the buildings; Replacing windows; Sealing the buildings  (elimination of air leaks);
         - Greenhouses: Installing  thermal screens
  5. Your energy3 savings will be determined with the help of an engineer member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec working for a registered firm4.
  6. Your performance criteria exceeds NECB 1997 as described on the page 7 of the Participant's Guide.
  7. Send the request to participate to Énergir before starting work on the renovation project by completing the Declaration of Intent (Form I).5

For the buildings

  3. Before starting the work, complete and submit Form I – Declaration of Intent
  4. Carry out your work.
  5. After the work, complete and submit Form II - After work, accompanied by supporting documents
Énergir will analyze your file and will contact you, if necessary. If the project is judged to comply with program requirements, Énergir will advise you accordingly and issue a cheque. 

For the greenhouses

  1. Consult Participant’s guide
  2. Consult the Guide for Preparation of Energy Savings Evaluation Report, which details the information needed and includes calculation methods for each type of renovation.
  3. Before starting the work, complete and submit Form I – Declaration of Intent
  4. Carry out your work.
  5. After the work, complete and submit Form II - After work, accompanied by supporting documents
  6. • For greenhouses consuming less than 150,000 m3 complete also Form IIA - Description of renovation work 

Énergir will analyze your file and will contact you, if necessary. If the project is judged to comply with program requirements, Énergir will advise accordingly you and issue a cheque.

Conditions

1. The total amount of the grant may not exceed $100,000 per fiscal year per Énergir account number.
2. A contract must have been signed with your Commercial Representative and an Énergir account number assigned in order to benefit from the financial assistance offered.
3. Excepting projects for the installation of thermal screens in greenhouses consuming less than 150,000 m3 of natural gas per year for which an evaluation of energy savings may not be done by an engineer. In such cases, Énergir will make Form IIA available to customers so they can estimate the energy savings.
4. Registered firms are firms with one or more engineers specializing in energy efficiency that can support Énergir customers in identifying and implementing energy efficiency projects. Having already carried out energy efficiency projects for Énergir customers, and with access to information about the energy efficiency grants offered, these firms are well placed to guide customers and facilitate their participation in Énergir’s energy efficiency grant programs.

This directory is meant to be a tool to help customers identify and find contact details of firms that offer energy efficiency services. None of these firms is a subsidiary or partner of Énergir, and making this directory available in no way certifies, attests to, or guarantees the quality of the services offered by these firms.

5. It is essential that you complete and submit your Declaration of Intent (Form 1), by which you inform Énergir of your intention to participate in the program, before starting the work. The start of work corresponds to the date the first contract covering the renovation project is signed.

The percentage of energy savings is calculated based on the annual reference consumption for heating.

Énergir reserves the right:

  • to modify or end the program without prior notice;
  • to interpret the conditions of the program;
  • to accept, refuse, or adjust the energy savings from any of the measures proposed by customers or other parties;
  • to limit the number of projects when the budget envelope reserved for the program is depleted.
