The grant amounts will vary, depending on the size of your building and on the equipment you plan to install. The grants will also be higher if you replace an heanting oil equipment.

Below are some examples of multitenant properties that have switched to natural gas and of the grant amounts they received.

16-unit multitenant building -
replacement of a fuel oil heating system

The owner of a 16-unit multitenant building replaces the existing heating system with a new natural gas system. The owner is entitled to a $6,000 grant to make this change.1

Since the building previously had a fuel oil system, Énergir will offer the owner an additional $2,000.4

And if the owner chooses a high-efficiency appliance, it could mean an additional $3,750.3 So, in this situation, the owner would receive a total of $11,750.

On top of the grants, switching from fuel oil to natural gas would reduce the building’s annual energy costs by $5,700.2

16-unit multitenant building -
replacement of a water heater

Another owner of a 16-unit multitenant building decides to purchase a new natural gas water heater. The owner will receive a $2,900 grant for the change.1

If the old water heater used fuel oil, the owner will be entitled to an additional $5004, for a total of $3,400.

And if the owner chooses a high-efficiency appliance, which will make it possible to consume less for the same level of comfort, the owner will receive an extra $400.3

1 Certain conditions apply. Grant amounts will vary, depending on the equipment installed and the building’s characteristics. Only buildings within proximity of the natural gas network are eligible for the grant. The offer begins on February 17, 2020, and ends on May 22, 2020. To benefit from the grant, you must submit a signed contract for the distribution and sale of natural gas to the contractor in charge of the work or to the Énergir representative by May 22, 2020. Grants will only be paid once the natural gas equipment is installed. A five-year natural gas supply contract is required. The eligibility criteria are listed in the Consumption Rebate Program guide approved by the Régie de l’énergie, a copy of which may be obtained on request. Grant amounts must not exceed eligible expenses. Program conditions and grant amounts may also be subject to change without prior notice.

2 Energy savings are calculated based on (i) an energy efficiency assessment of various types of equipment based on their age, and (ii) on the average annual prices available for the various energy sources in the Montreal, Quebec area. The scenarios are for multitenant buildings consuming 14,417 m3 of natural gas per year for heating and 4,800 m3 for hot water. The calculations are based on appliances with an energy efficiency of 85% for natural gas, 97% for electricity and 80% for fuel oil. The results are estimates only and may therefore differ from reality. Several factors, including buildings and equipment, may influence actual results.

3 This grant is offered only for the purchase of high-efficiency equipment and is also based on equipment capacity. To benefit from this grant, you must sign a contract with your sales representative or your Énergir Certified Natural Gas Partner prior to the installation of high-efficiency equipment. The other conditions listed in item one also apply.
