COVID-19 : Preventive and support measures for our employees, our customers and the public

Énergir is contributing to the collective effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and is taking the public authorities’ directives very seriously. In the last few days, we have rolled out preventive measures to ensure the health and safety of our employees, our customers, our business partners and the communities we serve.

We would like to reassure our customers: Since energy distribution is considered an essential service by the government, the current situation will not affect natural gas supplies or distribution.
As a public utility, we have implemented our business continuity and recovery plan. This plan enables us to ensure the reliability of our natural gas distribution activities and the safety of our gas network, and guarantees services that are deemed essential in the context of reduced staff.

Our preventive measures

  • Employees have been encouraged to work from home, if their duties allow for it, until further notice.
  • All employees who have travelled outside Québec and have been back for less than two weeks, or who have relatives in this situation, have been instructed not to report for work for a period of 14 days from the date they returned to the province, regardless of where they went.
  • Out-of-province business travel and all non-essential meetings and professional activities have been cancelled for all employees.
  • We can assure you that employees who come into contact with customers or the public are taking all necessary measures to avoid the risk of contagion. In particular, we have asked them to wear a respirator mask and gloves when meeting with customers and to follow the usual hygiene measures.

Customer service

Due to the circumstances, our customer service department is closed. However, a small team will be available at all times to respond to emergencies related to gas network safety, a loss of natural gas supply or a request to resupply natural gas.

All other requests will be processed when the situation allows for normal operations to resume.

At all times, and especially during this period, we encourage our customers to use their Cyberaccount to pay their bills.

Support for our customers

We are aware that this situation has created its share of challenges for businesses and individuals.

As a result, we have suspended collection procedures until further notice and will not be proceeding with any service interruptions for our residential or business customers. This includes the suspension of late-payment-fee billings for all customers.

We encourage any individuals or organizations experiencing financial difficulties directly related to COVID-19 to contact us so that we can discuss possible solutions. Given that we are currently operating under reduced staffing, response time could be longer than usual. Thank you for your understanding.

Assistance for the community

Supporting community organizations that are on the front lines to help the less fortunate is more essential than ever. Food security and the isolation of those who are lonely and vulnerable are issues that we must pay even more attention to at this difficult time.

This is why, in keeping with its values, Énergir is answering the community’s call for solidarity by taking the following action:  
  • A donation to the Food Banks of Quebec, which supports all Moissons du Québec organizations.
  • Contribution to the Centraide of Greater Montreal COVID-19 emergency fund
  • Emergency assistance to local United Way/Centraide offices or to local agencies in each of the regions where Énergir is present
  • A donation to the Canadian Red Cross to support its actions to control the spread of COVID-19
  • Additional funding for the 11 organizations supported by Soupe pour Elles.
We also remain committed to all the organizations we support and we wish to reiterate our support for the community.
